January 2012

Hi all

Here’s the news for January! Once again I am putting up photos rather than a lot of text as I know you all prefer to look rather than read, chuckle!

Emil and Maya had their birthdays this month, and although we couldn’t get down to Denmark (WA) to be with them, John sent us some photos.
There’s a couple of non birthday ones to begin with.

Emil’s birthday
Opening presents

A lovely bean bag chair from Mum and Dad!

A remote control helicopter from Nanny and Granddad!

Maya’s birthday
Opening presents

A solar fairy light from Nanny and Granddad

Looks like a new dress, bag and earrings!

Hmmm - not sure what this one's all about, chuckle!

Fairy cakes for the 'real birthday'

Benjamin dressing up for the party!

Maya using her new nail polish, chuckle!

The party birthday cake - obviously made by mum!! (Silvia) It certainly looks yummy!

John also sent some of the progress of their new house

Boy at work! (Emil)

Kids at play, chuckle! (Benjamin and Maya)

Apart from that, our Pennant team won an 8 badge in the 1st game we played after the Christmas break, so we were well pleased with that. To get the 8 badge (for those who do not know the rules of Pennants, chuckle!) we got all our 8 bowls closer to the jack (kitty) than any of our opposing team's - and we didn't have to move the jack to do it! This doesn't happen very often!! At the moment we (2nd Division Red) are at the top of the ladder and all our 3 teams have been playing well.

Looking pleased after winning the 8 badge!

Unfortunately my triples team got knocked out of the Ladies Championship Triples in the semi-finals, though we only lost by 3 shots and we were happy with the way we played.

We've also celebrated Australia Day here in Oz this month. It was very hot and stormy, but we cooked 'snaggers' (sausages) in the traditional style and watched the fireworks on TV, which looked pretty good combined with all the lightening! Luckily the fireworks were over before the rain came!

Mike has been walking when it’s not too hot – we’ve had some very hot days in the high 30s and 40s recently – and painting when it is. Here are photos of a couple of his latest paintings.

A darter (a type of cormorant) on the Canning River at Kent Street Weir

and a Nankeen Night Heron (bittern family) at the Heritage Rose Gardens

Mike also takes lots of photos of the Canning river while he’s walking, so I’ve included some of them.
Jo and Simon met us one day at the river on their bikes

Well, that’s about it for now. Mike will probably be updating his Mike Downunder and Painting blogs too during the next 2 or 3 days, so you might like to visit them too.

Enjoy! See you all again next month.
