Holiday 2013 - Episode 6 - High Halstow, Kent, with Marion and Bill

Episode 6 - UK with Marion and Bill

On Friday Bob drove us to the station and we caught the necessary trains to Rochester where Marion and Bill picked us up about 12.15pm. We unpacked and had lunch, then went and got a bit of shopping in the local shop before sitting and chatting for the rest of the afternoon. My niece Trudi and her son Wil and daughter Alice also called in.

In the evening after dinner Guy, my nephew, arrived about 9pm.

Roses in Marion and Bill's garden

The roses in the UK and in France were breathtaking - abundant blooms and beautiful colours

After lunch next day me, Mike and Guy went for a Medway walk along the Saxon Way and part of the Heron Way from the hill behind Trudi’s house, to the marshes at the bottom and back.

A quick stop for a rest at the top of the hill

Half way we stopped at the pub for a shandy. We were walking for about 3 hours, but it was sunny and cool so very nice.

When we got home we had aperitifs...

Home grown asparagus!

before dinner!

Sunday morning we went to watch Wil play in the final of his cricket team’s league match – they won so even though Wil didn’t get to bowl or bat, just field, he was very pleased.

After the match, Marion treated all the family to lunch at the local pub for her upcoming birthday.

On Monday we went down to Chatham on the bus and bought some bits and pieces and had lunch there.

Next day was Marion’s 75thbirthday! She had a beautiful basket of flowers from Bill, which came by special delivery.

In the afternoon we went for a walk to St Marys Church in Hoo.

We later learnt that the Church was now used as a dwelling, so it was no wonder that we couldn't get in to see inside!

The next couple of days we made preparations for our trip to France with Marion and Bill and on the morning before we left Mike went for a longer walk on his own to St James Church in Cooling.

Some wild roses ................

...........and a farmhouse on the way

In the afternoon Marion took us to Hoo where we caught the bus into Rochester as we were to have ‘Tea for Two’ at the Rochester Coffee Co café at 3.30pm with a voucher Marion had given us. We also met a family friend, Graham, there. We got to Rochester about 2.45pm and went to the Cathedral, but there was a school prize giving on, so we couldn’t get in.

Instead we mooched along the High Street

We had a lovely Tea for Two, which consisted of 12 little triangle sandwiches of various kinds, 2 huge scones with 4 little containers of jam, and 4 of butter and a pot of cream, and 10 or 12 ‘petit fours’ – little fancy cakes, all different! For once we forgot to take a photo, which was a shame as it all looked (and tasted!) so lovely!

The following day we set off for France with Marion and Bill
