Holiday 2013 - Episode 9 - Back in High Halstow, UK, Last Episode!

Episode 9 - Back in High Halstow, UK, Last Episode!

On Thursday we left Cheriennes about 10am and after stopping for fruit and vegetables on the way caught the 12.45pm chunnel train and  were back home   in   High  Halstow  about 2.30pm and spent the rest of the day unpacking and sorting ourselves out.Trudi had asked us if we would cook a  paella at their  house on Saturday so on Friday we went to get what we needed, then prepared as much as we could ready for next day.

Saturday was very overcast and a bit cold and it actually rained later in the morning a little bit! Rose and Mick arrived about 10.15am so we had coffee and a chat, then lunch. Mid afternoon, Marion took me and Mike round to Trudi's with all the paella stuff so we could get started. Matt and Mike started the fire about 4pm.

Prawns first....

Mike had to wear a mask because the smoke gave him hayfever!

.....then the chicken.....

The fire was slow at first, so we only had the chicken cooked by the time Marion and Bill and Rose and Mick arrived about 5.30pm, but there was plenty of other very apetizing things to eat while they were waiting!

Bill thought it was cold enough for a nice glass of red wine while he was waiting!

It's cooking away nicely now......

Now the rice is going in, so it won't be long now.

Then it suddenly all started to cook faster and we finally ate about 6.30pm and it was a very good one!
At last we can relax......

......it's ready to eat!

It was followed by Trudi’s lovely 'Eton Mess' which was cream, scrunched up meringues, strawberries and raspberries – yummy! We all had too much to eat - and drink! Matt put more wood on the fire so we were able to sit outside round it for a little longer,  and got home about 9.30pm.

We relaxed next day, while Bill, Trudi, Matt and Will went to the League Finals of the under 13s Cricket Match. Last week Wil’s team had won the Cup and won by 4 runs and this week it was to beat them for the League game.

Over the next couple of days we did some shopping and checking our return to Australia schedule and had one or two walks. Mike managed to fit one big one in.

On Tuesday evening (our last) Trudi, Matt and the kids came round for aperitfs to say good-bye to us.

We had a really wonderful holiday and would like to say a huge thank you to you, our friends and relatives, who made it so! We were wined, dined, accommodated and shown around all the lovely places we stayed. We hope these holiday blogs will bring a smile to your faces as you remember all the fun we had with you, as it does ours!

End of Holiday 2013 blogs!
