October 2019 Part 2 - Local activities, Lizzie's birthday, Maisie's birthday

Hi all
Here's part 2 of the October 2019 blog with lots more photos with captions! This part covers various activities locally, Lizzie's birthday and my birthday.

Mike found this baby turtle on the cycle path near our house so he took it back to the river. It seemed it survived OK, as later he went to check on where he had put it, and it was gone.

After a break of one day to get over all the Denmark activities, chuckle, the following Saturday me, Marion and Trudi went on the trains to Fremantle (from Thornlie to Perth, then Perth to Fremantle). It was a nice sunny day, bu the breeze was a bit chilly.

After we had visited the markets, where Marion and Trudi bought some souvenirs, we took the tourist 'tram' - it was actually a bus! - around the town so we could see and get information on all the historic sites, as we knew we would not have time to visit them all individually.

The Old Fremantle prison
We visited this some years ago and the conditions in the old days for the prisoners inside were quite awful!

At the end of the tour we were dropped off at the jetties/restaurant boardwalks where we had a really delicious meal at Jo's Fish Shack - battered squid rings, mussels, a big platter of crayfish, prawns on a bed of baramundi steaks (underneath), salad and various sauces.

The food!

Trudi - having enjoyed the food!
After lunch we visited the WA Shipwreck Museum where we saw the wreck of the Batavia and others. It was very interesting, but it was too dark inside to get any good photos.

The Round Tower

Trudi also had a look round the outside of the Round Tower, which was the original prison, but it was too late for her to go in, as they were closing up for the day.
Me and Marion waited on a seat from which this photo was taken.

As Trudi was to leave on Monday, on Sunday we drove to a local park, then walked through by the river to the Kent Street weir, where we had coffee etc. There was a fun day on for children and we enjoyed watching them playing is heaps of mud! We also took photos of a 'butterfly' on stilts who was demonstrating circus skills.

I had a message from Jo early on Monday to say she was paying us a surprise visit to say 'bye' to Trudi and should be with us by lunch time, which she was, and we all waved Trudi off in the afternoon. Jo managed to get in touch with Liz and arranged for her and Nathan to come over the next evening for tea (an early birthday surprise for Liz!) Here's the photos.

The next event was a visit with Marion to the Melville Rose gardens near Kalamunda. We had coffees first in town, then found the garden where they had some really lovely roses. Marion, knowing how I love roses, said she would buy me one for my birthday. I chose a lovely yellow one, but will not get it until next year around a more appropriate time for planting. I have a voucher so can pick it up at any time.

This is the rose I chose

This one was also un consideration.....

.....and this one!

This was a very unusual 'double' bloom

We went back to Kalamunda afterwards and had a lovely lunch in Embers restaurant in Gooseberry Hill, then took Marion on a drive around the hills until we found the Asparagus farm, where we bought - funnily enough - Asparagus, chuckle!

While Marion was still here, we also took her up to Mundaring weir to see the dam - our water supply - and surroundings. It was another lovely day out, with coffee on the way in the forest at Farrell Grove, and another at the Mundaring Tavern, and a picnic lunch.

John had to come up to Perth (regarding his work) the weekend before my birthday and he brought Benjamin with him. It also gave them the opportunity to say 'bye' to Marion. He took us for a meal at Mister Walkers - on the ferry jetty in South Perth - as my birthday treat. It turned a bit cold, but it was lovely to sit outside and see the city lights on the other side.

Here we all are at the restaurant

For us it was a wonderful month!

I'm not sure if there will be anything in November as I will be busy in the lead up to Christmas, but here's a link to Denmark's Brave New Works which was on the during the first weekend of November, which you may like look at.

You catch glimpses of John, Silvia and Emil in the short video clip, and see John and Silvia in the photos beneath the video clip.  (John made the revolving LOVE machine you will see in the video).

Well, that's it for now - Enjoy!
