June 2014

Hello again

This month has really flown by! We have been doing lots of repairs around the outside of the house, which is not a very interesting subject. Who wants to know how long it took to do the guttering and patio ceiling? That work continues as I write, chuckle.

We did however, have a very pleasant weekend with John, Silvia and family in Denmark though, so here are some photos and a video of our time there.

We didn't drive down this time, but planned to take the train from Thornlie into Perth, then the train to Bunbury and the bus from there to Denmark (WA). However this was not without mishap as, while we were walking to Thornlie Station, Mike managed to trip over on the pavement and cut his nose quite badly. Luckily, his sunnies reduced some of the damage and his wide brimmed hat saved what could have been a nasty gash to his forehard, as the brim turned under as he fell and we later noticed that it was quite roughed up and there was actually a hole in it where he must have hit a small stone! Anyway, apart from his nose he appeared to be OK so we patched him up then and there and continued to the station. We had allowed plenty of time, so still managed to catch the train we intended to.

The trip from Perth to Bunbury was uneventful, though it was interesting to see a local WA MP sitting across the aisle from us. (I believe he had recently had his licence suspended, so hence was having to use public transport!). It was a cold but sunny day, so the bus trip to Denmark was quite pleasant as everything was looking very green and lush after the winter rains.

We arrived on Friday night and got a lovely welcome from them all. Silva and John cooked us a lovely meal of fish with a beautiful sauce with baked potatoes and onions, and a green salad. We had pears in another delicious sauce for dessert.

On Saturday, while John stayed home with Maya and Benjamin and prepared some things for Sunday's paella, and Silvia went shopping, we went to watch Emil in the Denmark Junior's soccer match which was 'at home' this weekend. John had a rotten cold, so had thought it best to stay in the warm as it was another cold but sunny day.

Enough writing! Here's some photos:

After the game - they won!

In the afternoon Mike went with John and Emil to fly their model aeroplanes.

Taking off....

...safely landed!

The evening sky
Sunday was a little overcast, but not too cold. Here's some photos of the paella party.

Ready to eat

Silvia also made huge bowls of Sangria and salad, and I must mention here that one of the guests brought fresh caught and cooked crabs for starters and other guests also brought starters and desserts.

Afterwards John and some of his musician friends entertained us, and some of the mums did a bit of Spanish dancing!
Here's an excerpt from one of the videos Mike took:

The next day we spent with John while the rest of the family were at school. We had a lovely walk along Lights Beach. It was another cold but sunny day.

After school, where John and Silvia had a meeting with Benjamin's teacher and Maya did Netball practice,  we took Emil and Benjamin to the park to play with their model remote control boats. Unfortuneately we have no photos as I managed to badly cut the tip of my middle finger on the plastic propeller of Benjamin's boat, while trying to stop it launching itself at high speed into the river from the bank, chuckle!

The next morning John took us to the bus stop in Denmark and we got back home via bus and trains without any further incidents - except for a very rainy journey! Bad weather had been forecast, but we were lucky that on the short walk home from Thornlie Station it didn't rain until we had just got indoors! Apart from our 2 mishaps, we had had a wonderful weekend!

Well, that's about it for now - see you all again next month.
