January and February 2015

Hi folks

Well, although the aftermath of Christmas has been pretty hectic, we now seem to be catching up with ourselves, chuckle! Now I'll try and remember what we did in the last 2 months! Here's some news and photos starting from January 2015.

Firstly we had Emil to stay for a week after John, Silvia, Maya and Benjamin went home. Mike enjoyed having him to help with his aeroplane model making and also walking. They also managed one morning to do a bit of canoeing but we didn't get any photos of that unfortunately.

We took Emil to the Aeroplane Museum in Bull Creek, where he and Mike had a great time looking round. The one they were most interested in was the Spitfire as that is the model that Mike was making at the time.

......and some internal info.

The big Merlin engine!

Here's Mike model Spitfire. As yet it still doesn't have a propeller nor has it been flown. That will come later when the summer winds have gone and we have calmer weather.

.......and wheels......

....and of course there has to be a pilot!
After Emil went home, he celebrated his birthday, and also Maya's. The whole family spent most of the time camping, which they all enjoy very much.

Now here's the February news.

Jo and Si celebrated their wedding anniversary earlier this month. We popped round the evening before with their card and present and took this lovely photo of them.

After canoeing with Emil, Mike pulled a tendon in his ankle, so couldn't do his usual walks!! Something had to be done - and quick!!!!! So we bought him a bike, as, after trying Jo's he discovered that he could ride one OK as it was a different action from walking. (He has had treatment for it and we are hoping that it will get better soon.). I then thought maybe I should have a bike too, so that at least I could ride with him sometimes, so we bought another one. This turned out too big for me, so after trying Jo's for size, which was smaller than the other 2, we managed to get one that I can ride more comfortably! (All 3 were 2nd hand, so Mike had quite a bit of 'servicing' to do on them, chuckle!). Here's some photos.

Maisie's 1st bike - 19" frame Giant

Maisie's 2nd bike - 15" frame Giant!

Having sorted out the sizes, Mike thinks he will now use the 19" frame one as that seems to suit him better! I haven't fallen off yet, but think I should have "L" plates on so other walkers/cyclists know that I may do something silly, chuckle!

Also earlier this month, after a huge storm, part of the council's big tree, that stands on the corner near our house, blew down - just missing out gates and fence! After collecting up the debris, they have since been and cut down the whole tree and also another one in front of our house which was also dying. Here's some photos of the big tree after the storm. We were very lucky that it didn't fall the other way, onto the side fence and caravan just inside!

Next some bowls news. Me, my Friday partner John and 2 other friends, Eileen and Dave, managed to win the Club Championship Mixed Fours this year! We were all very pleased of course! Here we are before and after the game.

Eileen - lead, me - 2nd, John - 3rd and Dave - Skip

After the game...very tired but happy!

Our 2nd Division Red (that's us!) also ended the Pennant season being top of the ladder, which means we will be promoted to 1st Division (Green I think) next season. We are in the playoffs for the Pennant flag against the winners of the other colours next week. Unfortunately, Betty, who plays lead in our team, and Ann were unable to be in the photos below as Betty was on that day having a hip operation and Ann was suffering a nasty attack of vertigo.

We had a good old time at the wind-up with a nice lunch, Karaoke and dancing, as you can see below! (As well as a couple of glasses of wine, chuckle!)

Other news: Si, Jo, Alex and Liz are all OK and getting on with their very busy lives.Liz will be at Murdoch University very soon, being one of the top 5 to be accepted to take a Bachelor of Science course.

A while ago Emil took a violin exam and got an A+. He will be coming to Perth soon to receive an award for this at UWA (University of Western Australia for those of you reading this in the UK). Maya and Benjamin are still doing well at school and the new term will be starting very soon. Silvia and John are still busy pursuing their various interests and work.

Well, I think I've remembered everything! See you all again next month (maybe!)
