January 2020 continued and February 2020

Hi again

This blog has a couple of photos of Maya's birthday in January, after we'd left after Emil's 18th birthday, so I'll start with them. She had some friends in for a sleepover and I think that they played music, watched videos etc and generally had a good time.  John sent us these photos.

The birthday present trail!

A lovely photo with Jo
Not sure if I mentioned this in the last blog, but Emil passed his end of school exams with marks good enough to gain him entry into WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) at the Edith Cowan University where he is now studying Jazz Violin or Gypsy Violin I think he calls it! He was very lucky to get in especially straight from school and it is a 4 year course. This meant of course that he would have to be nearer than Denmark to attend, chuckle! So far he has had no luck getting a room in a share house close to Uni, but Silvia's friend Theresa has a studio next to her house in Fremantle which he is using temporarily in the meantime. It means he has to cycle to the Railway station to get to Perth, then from Perth, another cycle ride to Uni. He could have done the same from our house, but not quite so conveniently and our spare bedroom is also a little bit small. Hopefully he will soon find accommodation nearer the Uni.

He has been to visit us a couple of times since he's been up here, which was lovely and also, a couple of weeks ago Silvia - who had a writer's workshop - John, Emil and Benjamin visited us (Maya couldn't make it as she had other commitments, so stayed with Jo while the rest of the family were up here). John, Emil and Benjamin called in for a few hours to see us and sorted out bikes to take back to Denmark for Benjamin and Maya. They also had some fun in the pool while they were with us.

Below is a photo of Benjamin trying out one of the bikes back home in Denmark

He is apparently very pleased with it and is now riding it to school. His old bike is too small for him now that he is also, like Maya, taller than me!!

In between the heatwaves and thunderstorms we've been having during our very unusual summer, me and Mike managed another trip to Mundaring Weir and locality. It is always nice up there with plenty to see. This time we picked a Sunday, so the winding road was a bit chock-a-block with cyclists and motor cyclists, but we took the van and had a coffees at Farrell Grove and a  picnic lunch at the weir.

Me leaning on the rail at the weir...

....some ducks....

The water was down, but looked beautiful.....

.....view across the dam wall......

....view of the nearby old workings.....

We thought the white box on the cliff was a sign, but it turned out to be a couple of painted metal boxes. We have no idea how they got there or what they are for!

That's about it for now. I'll just finish off with a photo of a lovely sunset we had one evening after the rain. It made a very good 'online' jigsaw puzzle, chuckle!

See you all next time
Enjoy!
