June 2011

Hi all
Well we are into winter here now and have had quite a lot of rain this month. However we do still see the sun on most days, but it is considerably colder in the early morning and evenings, so we have been lighting the fire to make it nice and cosy!
There's not really a lot of news this month, but I'll do my best to make it as interesting as possible!

The Canning Arts Group had their Awards Night at Cannington Town Hall and Jo, Alex, Lizzie and Mike all had entries in. There were a lot of pictures of all genres and Alex got a Highly Commended certificate for one of hers!

Mike also had one on display at the Canning Arts Group where he and Jo paint on Fridays (right)

And here's a photo of his latest finished one.

Mike is hoping to make a new blog for all his paintings, so they are all together.

The rest of the month was spent looking for another little car for me as the KA has now done nearly 335,000 kms and needs some sorting out done on the engine management system. As it is also 10 years old, we decided that the time was right to get another car.

It's always a hassle trying to find what you want, and we did try going to some of the dealers in the hope of trading in the KA, but they were not interested because of it's age and kms. We also looked at 2 or 3 that were advertised on the net, but they didn't quite come up to expectations. In the end, we found one advertised in the Sunday Times. It was 2007 black Holden Barina with only 54,000 kms on the clock and Mike was pleased with how it drove and sounded etc. There were hardly any marks on it and what there were didn't show much, so we decided to have it.
We picked it up next day from Fremantle where the lady who owned it worked. We (Mike mainly!) spent the next couple of days cleaning and polishing the inside and outside.
Here's some photos:

It rained! and here it is under the rainbow!

John, Silvia and the children came up to Perth for a few days during the last week of June so that they could look at tiles, bathroom things etc for the house which their builder will soon be starting on (hopefully!). They stayed with friends in the hills this time, as it would have been very cold in our little caravan for them at this time of year.

They had a lot of things to do, but managed to call in for tea with us and Jo one evening. (Simon, Alex and Lizzie were busy with school stuff and other things so couldn't make it unfortunately). As it it John's birthday early in July, we made it an early birthday tea for him and had a very nice evening.

That about brings us up to date. As I say the weather has stopped a lot of Mike's walking and my bowls this month, but on the whole it's probably not been much worse than summer in the UK, chuckle!
