October 2014

Hello again

We started the month with Mike's birthday, and as you probably remember, we put that up on the September blog. The next birthday was Lizzie's, but as she is still under pressure with studying and exams, she has decided that we will celebrate it when the exams are all over. My birthday ended the month, and although I had a lovely day, it was also the day that Silvia's mum passed away peacefully in her sleep, which was a shock for all of us. R.I.P Liesel.

On my birthday morning we met Jo, Simon and Alex at the Kent St weir for breakfast, which was very nice, and they gave me an Italian Murano glass pendant.

Afterwards we went to the park with Mike to try to fly his aeroplane, but it got a bit windy and crashed once again, needed more repairs.

The family cycled home and we drove to the bowls shop where Mike bought me a new handbag, lunch bag and a bowls 'guardian Angel' brooch. Later we spoke to John, Silvia and the children on Skype. They sent me some birthday money to spend.

Marion and Bill sent me a book called 'Limerick Nation - The UK in Verse' and one of them was written by Marion, and was very funny.

Mike cooked smoked pork spare ribs for dinner which we had with jacket potatoes, salad and wine (of course!) followed by Banana Flambe with ice cream and Triple Sec, and a couple of glasses of Champagne to go with it, chuckle! Good job we were at home and didn't have to drive anywhere!

This is the serviette holder given to us by our Danish friends, Victor and Suzanna, when we visited them in Spain last year, chuckle! If you ever travel in Spain you will see huge billboards of them alongside the road.

Now here's some photos of Mike's model aeroplane, the 1st 3 are in the progress of being built...............

........ and here's the finished project!

There have been a few trial flights since these photos were taken, and lots of repairs and adaptions. As yet it has only been a few feet off the ground, but does at least fly. Weather conditions have to be perfect - no wind!

While Mike has been 'aeroplaning' I have been playing bowls. We have now played the 1st two Pennant games, and so far our division is doing OK. Me and my team have also managed to get into the club Ladies Championships Finals, which we will be playing mid November (thanks Ria, Ann and Betty for playing so well for me)

To end with, here are a few photos of interesting things on Mike's walk........

.......and one of my African violets and roses as they were at he beginning of the month.

Jo has won some more art awards, Lizzie is studying hard, Alex is still teaching the 'oldies' art as well as having lessons herself, and Simon is still busy writing.

John and Silvia have been busy preparing for the Denmark 'Brave New Works' = John is in 'Fiddler on the Roof' and 'Rhythms of Life' where he does some clarinet playing and a documentary, and Silvia is doing a week long workshop ending in a play performance. This is coming up very shortly. Between times the kids are doing well at school and building and flying aeroplanes with their Dad. A photo of Maya's model tree house was in the school newsletter, and her class are doing a project on 'buildings', for which we had to send her some photos of the houses that Mike built in Spain.

That's about it for now - see you all again next month (maybe! this page gets more and more complicated to do as they keep changing ways of doing it!)
