August 2015

Hell again!
Well our weather here in August has been extremely varied with heavy rain some days, or very cold mornings and evenings and unusually warm sunny days - they say variety is the spice of life!
The first event in August was Benjamin's birthday. We couldn't be in Denmark (WA) for it but talked to him on Skype and sang him Happy Birthday and John sent  this photo to us

A  week later all the family were with us for a couple of days before flying off to Europe for few months! We had a lovely time with them and managed to meet up with Jo at the river cafe before they left us to stay with Dieter for a couple of days before flying out.

Trying to get everything in the car....
....not sure if there's room for the kids!

All set to go!

They left on a night flight and arrived safely in Copenhagen in the afternoon, where they were met by my cousin Steve who somehow got them all and the luggage to his and Ulla's place in Sweden. They stayed a few days sightseeing and enjoying a family birthday party before going back to Copenhagen for another couple of days sightseeing.
After that they headed for Germany and picked up a hire car in Lubeck so they could do some more touristy things before arriving at their base house, which will be in Trier.
I'm sure the kids will get a great deal out of a holiday like this, though they will be attending school for most of the time. It will be a nice break too, for John and Silvia. A family 'adventure' is always a good thing I think!

Next on our agenda was to go to a Charcoal Drawing demo given by Jo at a local Art Group. It was very interesting and she did extremely well, making it light hearted as well as informative.

Alex and Lizzie are enjoying and doing well on their Uni courses and Simon is still decorating.

As I said earlier, we have had some lovely sunny warm days, which is unusual for this time of year, so one day last week we took the opportunity to  have a ride out. We went to Cockburn Industrial area first to get a new battery for the old Chev. There are not many places you can still get 6volt batteries.
Afterwards we cut across country to Coogee Beach, just south of Fremantle, and arrived there about 11am, so decided to have 'brunch' in the little cafe near the Caravan Park and the beach. It was delicious and lovely to be eating outside in the sunshine! We then went for a walk along the beach and took some photos.

Not sure who this greyhaired lady is walking down to the beach!

Coogee Beach....

...ditto.

This poor gull had lost both it's feet, but still managed to get around quite well

A view of the jetty.
Afterwards we went back to the cafe to have our desserts - mine was a fruit slice with a thick chocolate bottom, which I had thought was just biscuit, and Mike had a huge slice of Coffee Torte (cake)! Both were much sweeter than we are allowed, chuckle!

Apart from these happenings, Mike has been repairing and cleaning his model Cutty Sark, which he made about 40 years ago when we were living in Spain.......

and here it is back in place in his computer room.

Mike's Cutty Sark

In the meantime I have been playing bowls and Mike has been walking/cycling to the weir and sometimes I go too, if it's not raining! Here a couple of river photos.

Just to finish off here's some photos of the Spring flowers - out early! - in our garden.

Well, that's it for now - enjoy!
